Abundance of Opportunities to Move Your Body
Do you suffer from anxiety and depression? If so how often are you actually getting out and moving your body? Do you get daily exercise? A study out of Australia, found that exercise was more effective than any other treatment for combating depression and anxiety. I know for myself this to be true as well.
I have struggled with anxiety and had a generalized anxiety disorder for as long as I can remember. I was first diagnosed with it when I was 18 and was on and off anxiety medication for over 20 years. During the pandemic I finally said, enough is enough. I no longer trust the pharmaceutical companies there needs to be a better way to manage my anxiety and a more natural route. Making that decision was the best decision I could have ever made. I have managed to completely get off of my anxiety medication through natural supplements, daily exercise and ensuring that I eat a very healthy diet. The more I get out and move the better I feel. The healthier I eat the better I feel.
The biggest podcaster in the world, Joe Rogan, has been quoted saying, “The people I know that have the hardest time keeping it together emotionally are people that don’t workout.” He has talked on many of his podcast episodes about the importance of exercise and its relationship to mental health. Which for myself, I know is true too.
The crazy thing is, we have an abundance of opportunities to get up and move our bodies, yet so often people don’t. Society as a whole is living increasingly sedentary lives. You do not need to have a gym membership to start getting active, you can literally start right now.
I have always been a pretty active person. Yet I even notice and increase in my mood when I ensure I get exercise each and every day. I have my yoga mat in my bonus room and it is always laid out so that in the mornings I can get up and do some exercises before I even get dressed and ready for the day. This has been a key tool to helping me manage my anxiety and live a healthier life. Some days I just do some sit ups and pushups when I only have 5 minutes. Everyone has 5 minutes that they can take for themselves.
There are an abundance of ways that you can get moving each and every day. You could go for a walk, a swim, play a game that gets you up and moving, spend some time gardening, etc. When we are conscious of the importance of moving our bodies we are more likely to get out and move more. This week plan out your week and write down what you will do each day to get a little more active. Then at the end of the week take note of how you feel.
